combining resin and acrylic with natural elements, Sykes’ work bridges the gap between art and design, suspending flora and fauna in functional pieces of furniture such as screens and cabinets. Working from her hay built studio in rural County Carlow, Sykes has her materials at her fingertips – her ethereal, romantic pieces are inspired by the artist’s love of the ‘uncelebrated aspects of our natural surroundings’, and preserve the often over looked details such as moss, litchen and seaweed, elevating them in line with their floral counterparts.
