A TWO FACED GARMENT

I have been in the print room printing up some of the most successful imagery, onto acetate. Which i have then been using for screen printing. i have been printing around A3 sized imagery of my granddads photographs of my family. They have been very successful prints, i have not printed in black and white but because i have been printing in pastel colours. which i feel work really well and i adore the way they come out. i feel that the pastel works the best i'm not too sure why. But the light and soft seems to give the prints a baby like quality, a clam and peaceful tone to the image. I have been using silk as a material for printing onto and i have found that it works really well i love the way it works with the inks, where the ink has not been printed onto it have given a silk shine instead of plain white. i feel it also gives the image a 3D affect, where it feels like the image is coming out at you and not flat. Because of the silk working so well, i have been thinking of what i could do with the material. I have been looking at the imagery and how my grandmother always had beautiful taste in clothing and i there are a few images of her on her wedding day and i've been thinking of maybe using the silk and turning into a garment to wear. I was thinking of making a gown almost a wedding dress in relation to the imagery of my grandparents wedding photos. The idea would be too take a pre made dress and take it apart and then put back together with my added material (silk printed imagery). I have already spoken too the fashion department in penryn where i have found a few people who would be interested in collaborating with me, in particular Fran White, who is a third year fashion student. I have been specking to jane, who is textiles tutor in printing. we have been talking about the layout of printing many images onto fabric and the best ways of doing this. First option is to print side by side (almost box like and overlapping). Which i think would be too harsh for the look i want i would like a soft finish on the edging of the imagery. so the other option is to use photoshop, and edit the images so the run as one smooth image which then can connect without any harsh or sharp edges. i think this would work really well. So from this i have been playing around with some images on PIXLER EDITOR, which is an online editor programme. i have using this programme to explore layering the images and some of these images have come out very well and i really like the effect of them These are a few images, which i have edited
and am thinking of using in the garment. You can see on these images that there are two images over lapping each other, i feel that they all work really well together and give the images a level of depth.
I have also been thinking of what else i could do with this project and collab and how it relates to my previous ones. Where i would use a look of text base work. i was thinking of how i could print the main imagery onto the top of the garment and on the underskirt i could put text in there of true thought, emotions, memories and so on. So the garment itself is becoming almost two faces. Beautiful on the outside and on the inside it's true feelings and emotion.
